What is PAREX?

TL;DR: We do not need more expressways.

The Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) is a ~20 kilometer long and six-lane wide expressway that will "traverse the entirety of Pasig River". San Miguel Corporation CEO, Ramon Ang, claims the project would solve Metro Manila traffic and clean up the Pasig River. However, the PAREX is a project whose approval has been railroaded in the Toll Regulatory Board without proper documents and public consultation.

Civil society organizations have engaged the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and the Toll Regulatory Board for months to address the critical concerns of stakeholders, however, all we received was a non-response.

Since PAREX has first been launched publicly, stakeholders have been proactive in voicing out, but public sentiments were silenced by the corporate propaganda, some of which were initiated by national media channels.

Why do we condemn PAREX?

PAREX will:

Image of car pollution

Derail our efforts
for climate justice

Image of Philippine heritage by Pasig River

Destroy our
heritage

Image of traffic in Manila

Worsen our already
alarming mobility crisis
